Report and Photos by Doug Engstrom
After a rain out cancelled the first race scheduled for the newly renamed Brokenhead MX Raceway a large turnout arrived for a rare double-header weekend.
First year Intermediate Devon Ward has been riding solidly and was rewarded with his second overall win of the season in the 125 Intermediate class.
Garrett Graboweski has been wringing out his KTM 105SX all season long. Graboweski grabbed the second step on the box in the Supermini class with 3-2 finishes.
Kim Houde (71) gives Jim Frederickson (120) a little nudge in the Vet Master racing. Frederickson had the last laugh on this day going 1-1 to take the overall.
In the 50cc 7-8 class D.J. Burmey did something no one else in Manitoba has done in the past season and a half, finish ahead of Cole DeKoninck. Burmey won both motos to take his first overall of the season.
Kevin Small made his return to the 250 Intermediate class with a podium appearance. Small used a pair of second place moto finishes to take second overall.
After missing the first two races of the year while recovering from off season knee surgery Adam Knutt got his first moto win of the season in the 125 Pro class. Knutt posted 1-3 finishes good for second overall.
Cole Cote put his endless hours of practice at the Brokenhead MX Raceway to good use on Sunday. Cote took three out of four moto wins and both overalls in the 125 and GP Junior classes.
Brian Andrushko was a double winner as well with overall victories in the Vet junior and 250 junior classes.
Luke McFadden put in a 2-2 day in the 25+ class, good for the second step on the box behind Matt Hamm.
Branden Senchuk continued his dominance of the 125 Beginner class with a 1-1 day.
Ryan Linto put in a strong day taking the last podium spot in the 65cc class and grabbing a top five with a fifth in the 85cc 7-11 class.
Craig Lavallee may not be slow but he sure was steady. Lavallee went 2-2 to take the overall in the ATV Pro class ahead of moto winners Paul Fotiuk and Curtis Barley.
One of the infamous Morden Five, Jamie Kennedy continues to run the pre-mix while surrounded by valve and cam machines. Kennedy grabbed the final step on the box in the Youth class.
Ryan Kokorudz had a perfect day en route to the overall in the 50cc 4-6 class.
Another member of the infamous Morden Five, David Ledarney put his Westside Honda on the box behind the gregscustom.com Suzuki of Nick Dunn and the Headingley Sportshop Kawasaki of Adam Knutt in the 250 Pro class.
Carmen Regier posted a pair of third place rides to take Third overall in the ladies class.
Richmond Morin took Second overall in the 85cc 12-16 class. Unfortunately for Morin this will be his last podium for a while after returning from Raymond with a broken leg.
In the ATV Beginner class Bob Polkinghorne finished Second overall and for a change the writer got his name correct!
Rachel Regier posted a pair of second place finishes for Second overall in the Little Ladies class.
With a night of Tornado warnings and torrential rains passed, this is what greeted racers on Sunday morning. Robert Small and the rest of the dedicated volunteers of the Brokenhead MX Raceway were left in the disappointing position of having to cancel the second half of the double header.
See you at the races…
